This week 22nd August 2010 Apologies for the lack of recent updates to the site. Our regular web editor Robin has been waylaid by work commitments. Please rest assured that work is still progressing on 46464 and updates will resume as time permits. This week Ian, and Iain continued preparation for the recovering of the loco tent. Work below the frames was becoming rather cramped due to the frames resting on the temporary sleepers after the loco move in 2002. The frames have now been jacked up and placed on to the purpose made stands. This has raised the height of the engine by 18 inches allowing considerably better access. This now meant that the engine was now fouling the tent roof, so the tent has also been raised by 2 feet to accommodate the cab sides, and new roof once fitted. Opportunity has also been taken of new available tarp dimensions to give us a little bit more working space and protection below 464's tent. Work over the last couple of weekends included adding an extra width to the tent, adding an 'aisle' alongside the 'nave' of our cathedral of steam. Additional frame fabrication is currently ongoing, but we hope to be able to get the engine back undercover in the next few weeks. Progress has slowed somewhat this summer due to work and family commitments. But hopefully progress will pick up again now we are past the slow summer months when members are off on holidays etc.
